St. John's Mission Statement

Directions: The church building is located at 606 N. 5th Street, between Shelby and Hart Streets. View map Parking is along the streets of 5th and Shelby. Our paved parking lot is behind the church (enter from Hart St.).
Office Hours: The office is typically open Monday - Friday, 8 AM - 4:30 PM (closed for lunch 12 - 1 PM, closed on most major holidays).
Worship Services: Services are held at 10:30 AM on Sunday mornings. While we eagerly embrace modern music and theology, we offer a traditional church service which includes singing of The Doxology and The Gloria Patri, recitation of the Lord's Prayer (KJV), NRSV Bible liturgy and hymns from the Chalice Hymnal. Visitors are encouraged to use the laminated Visitors Information Card, located in every pew, for assistance.
Summer 8:30 AM Worship Services: We also offer a shorter Praise Service at 8:30 AM on Sundays during the summer. This year's 8:30 AM services begin June 1 and run through Aug. 10.
Fully Accessible To All: Our parking lot entryway has a ramp, and there is ramp access to the church sanctuary through Memorial Hall. There are several handicap parking spaces located close to all entrances with ushers standing by if you require assistance. We also have our own wheelchairs and walkers for anyone who needs them while at church.
Large Print Bulletins, Afghans, and Phonic Ears Hearing Devices: Please ask an usher for assistance.
Nursery (Newborn - Age 5): Our nursery, located next to the church office, is supervised by volunteers from the church and is available during Sunday School, Worship, and other church functions. Children enjoy playing with toys, listening to music, coloring, being read to, and sharing snacks.
Sonshine Time: The first Sunday of the month is a Family Sunday, in which children are invited to stay with their families in the Worship Service. The remaining Sundays offer Sonshine Time, in which children (age 6 - 4th grade) are able to leave the Worship Services after the Children's Message for supervised time of fellowship and fun.
Prayer Requests: Please use the pink cards provided in the pews and pass them to the outer aisles for collection before the first hymn.
Audio Tapes: If you would like an audiotape of our Sunday morning Worship Service, please ask an usher for one or call the church office.
Holy Communion: St. John's UCC celebrates the Sacrament of Holy Communion on special occasions and periodically at other times throughout the year. The congregation is served in the pews and holds the sacraments to partake together.
Parish Nurse: St. John's has a parish nurse whose office is located in the parsonage annex and is open after church services for consultation.
Special Events/Weddings/Reunions: St. John's United Church of Christ has an open door policy for the surrounding community. We have a wonderful event hall and kitchen that is available for rent. If you would like to hold a meeting, special event or wedding at St. John's, please contact the church office at (812) 882-2720 for more information.
